Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana wants you to play more RPGs on the Switch – App Trigger

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana has been in the news a lot lately, though not for the reasons I’d have liked. It was one of my favorite games of last year and certainly one of the best RPGs, though its localization from NIS America needed some help. They are fully retranslating the game for its January 30 release on PC and offering that re-write as a free update for PS4 players. But it looks like Nintendo Switch players will have a portable option for the game if they don’t want to pick up a Vita when the game launches on the system later this summer.
If you haven’t picked up Ys VIII yet, I can’t recommend it enough, especially now that it’s on my favorite current console. It’s sizable, yet a manageable RPG adventure with excellent combat, an enjoyable island world to explore, and some of gaming’s best music of 2017. With the upcoming re-localization, we can anticipate that the story will make a bit more sense as well, though as I mentioned in my review, I liked it well enough even when we were making jokes about the Archeozoic Big Hole.
If you absolutely can’t wait, the PS4 version is already out and the PC version will drop on the 30th, but if you’re just a Switch owner looking for a meaty summer RPG, put Ys VIII on your to-do list.
